It’s been a few days since I’ve written anything of personal substance, so I thought I’d consolidate my previous week or so into a single post. So, what’s been going on with me?
Chris has a new apartment:
 |
Our long time friend, Chris, got a new apartment recently. April, myself, and a few others were invited over for a house-warming dinner. Chris made raspberry rubbed pork tenderloin and all the accoutrements for dinner. We got to see his new place, really nice by the way, and just sat outside on the patio and chatted for a couple hours before coming home. It was good to get to see him and good to get out of the house for a bit. I’ve been cooped up entirely too much lately.

Aries is Born:
 |
After six long years, my old PC Zeus has finally almost died. She lost her primary IDE controller channel about six months ago but I’ve avoided putting any more money into upgrading her so she limped along on one IDE channel for a few more months.
Two weeks ago she locked up and I found out the other IDE controller was going, so we started plans for building a new box. I’ve never been so plagued bad luck when it comes to building a new PC, but I think every manufacturer in town decided to send me DOA parts at the same time… two weeks and a lot of frustration later, Aries was born.
Aries is housed in a RaidMax Smilydon gaming case, primarily due to the awesome air flow that case has integrated. A dual core intel 3.3 Ghz processer powers her, pushed along with 4 gigs of ram, and (thanks to vista) 2 gigs of video memory. This thing is the porsche of work machines! She smokes along and hasn’t had a single glitch since I turned her up for the first time last week.
As you can see, left, she looks pretty nice with the lights off. I have a thing for glowing cases; what can I say? It’s a vice… |
Customer Appreciation Pig Pickin’
|
One of my vendors threw their quarterly customer appreciation party a few weeks back. It’s a really awesome thing they do. In short, they invite all their regular customers up to the store for an all day pig picking. Then they invite a few of their vendors to put up a showcase, bring new product, or just hang out and talk to potential customers. We always leave with cool new stuff we didn’t plan on buying when we arrived, which I guess is kind of the point, but it’s a great time nonetheless.
Tom was there showing off AFL’s new 18s fusion splicer. Nice little toy but I still prefer my 50S version!
Take a look at the size of that cooker! That thing is huge! It’s got a front deck as well as a massive internal cooker that’s about ten feet long.
As always, Johnson cooked an awesome pig! The 151 pound pig and 20 gallons of brunswick stew were gone in less than an hour! Thanks again guys and I’ll see you in three months! |
XBOX 360 Repair
|
I just posted this because I thought some of you might not have seen the internal guts of an Xbox 360. We’ve recently been asked to start repairs on the product and I have a line of them on my bench awaiting upgrade and repair for a variety of issues.
They are a COMPLETE pain to take apart though. Just getting inside the shell takes 3 hands and twenty minutes of carefully prying apart plastic to avoid breaking the clips.
Once you’re in though, it’s just a basic computer; motherboard, processor, video card, dvd-rom drive and fans. Pretty cool to see though if you’ve never seen one. Click on the pictures to blow them up in a new window. |
Got a really cool picture of my Mom.
|
If you’re awaiting an in-depth explanation of this one, you’ll be disappointed. I was taking a photo of Mom last week when we went out to Pizza Hut for lunch. I needed a new photo for her caller-id on my iPhone and just happened to snap a really good photo of her, so I thought I’d share. Click to see it in detail. |
Ok, now you know a little of what I’ve been up to these previous two weeks. Now I have to get to work and get my day started. I’m already a few minutes late, but I wanted to finish this post before I took off. I’ve got a customer who has been mistreated by the phone company for about a week now that I need to go handle, a new PC to fix for an older gentleman across town, payroll to prepare for the end of the week, and I have GOT to find some new clients this week. Work is going slow at the shop right now. People are hard hit on gas prices, scared of their mortgages, afraid their banks are going to fail, and generally just depressed lately. I’ll admit that the news has gotten to me too. My head isn’t where it needs to be right now. I need to me motivated and energetic about what we do and by the time I read the latest new in the morning I’d rather move to Guam than deal with our economy any more.
